32 HOUR ASBESTOS WORKER TRAINING

This four day course is a required discipline approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and it is conducted following requirements under the Module Accreditation Plan (MAP). It is also strictly regulated by the State of Michigan, Department of Consumer and Industry Services and the Department of Occupational Health-Asbestos Division. Individuals who are required to have this level of training and receive accreditation include:

  1. Persons wishing to conduct response actions pertaining to asbestos-containing material in a school building, a public or commercial buildings.

  2. Persons wishing to conduct activity satisfying any one of the following:
    a. A response action other than an operations and maintenance activity.
    b. Amaintenance activity that disturbs friable asbestos containing material other than an operations and maintenance activity.
    c. A response action for a major fiber release episode.

  1. Physical Characteristics of Asbestos and Asbestos-Containing Materials
  2. Potential Health Effects Related to Asbestos Exposure
  3. Personal Protective Equipment
  4. State-of-the-Art Work Practices
  5. Personal Hygiene
  6. Additional Safety Hazards
  7. Medical Monitoring
  8. Air Monitoring
  9. Any Relevant Local, State, and Federal Regulatory Requirements
This course also includes at least 14 hours of hands-on training in the construction of containment, glove bags, mini-enclosures, and the removal of non-ACM material made to look like the real thing! Instructors reserve the right to cover material above and beyond the scope on the MAP.
